The name Octavia is of Latin origin and means
the eighth. It was used to name the eighth daughter in the days when
large families were popular. A number of women in Roman noble families were
named Octavia, for example the wife of the emperor Nero. Nero later divorced
Octavia to marry his mistress Poppea.
