Betty is a nickname for Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the English
version of the Hebrew name Elisheva. El means God. Sheva means oath. So it
means an oath pledged to God. Many well known women have had the name
Elizabeth, but probably the most famous in history have been the queens of
England by that name. The first English Queen Elizabeth lived from 1533 to 1603
and was the daughter of Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn. During her reign the British
Empire grew tremendously. The most recent Queen Elizabeth became queen when her
father King George VI died in 1952. She is still living at the age of 94.
