Valentine’s Day is named for a Catholic saint named
Valentine. It is unclear who Valentine was. One legend is that the Roman empire
at one point in time forbade young men to marry because it was felt that
married men did not make good soldiers. Valentine was a priest who defied Rome
by continuing to marry young men to the young ladies whom they loved and was
therefore executed. The heart is a symbol of love and Valentine’s day.
